Communication & Collaboration Centers 1

Today we’ll continue our movie trailer to learn communication and collaboration and start a 4 day exploration of tools that support communication and collaboration.
We’ll need to review the National Educational Technology Standard (NETS) on Communication and Collaboration first: This is the NETS Standard we’ll focus on for 4 classes:
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media
b. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats
c. Develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures
d. Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems




TASK ONE = CREATE: Communicate and Collaborate with your classmates first

      Creating 1-2 minutes of movie trailer with your group
STEP ONE: Choose a topic- Topics that you can consider?
  • A message to parents on the first day of the class
  • Life at UGA

STEP TWO: Storyboarding

  • To design your story and slides/images use this form

 STEP THREE: Create with iPad

  • use iMovie in the iPad


  • Upload your trailer to our class YouTube account (get the log in information from your instructor)

TASK TWO = EXPLORE: Explore Communication & Collaboration Tools

In this center you will create a toolkit of 5 or more communication and collaboration tools. Access center details here: ToolKit2013.pdf.

 There are many tools that support communication and collaboration – so many that it can be difficult to keep them organized. For this project, you’ll collect a minimum of 5 tools that support communication and collaboration.

  •  As you find your 5 tools, add them to your organizer and write a detailed description of how each tool could be used to support comm/collab.
  • Talk about how the tool supports the NETS for Communication and Collaboration and/or one or more of the charactistics of Meaningful Learning with Technology. Remember, you are selecting high quality tools, not just the first 5 you find, and what you say about the tool is just as important as the tool itself.
  • When you have completed pinning your tools, add a link to your page or to  your blog.  You need only link to this specific board, not your entire Pinterest account. This link will tell you how to add the link to Pinterest onto your webpage.

TASK FOUR=REFLECT: Reading Response



To prepare for Task Three, it will help you to read a little more about communication and collaboration tools. You’ll need to read Chapter 3 from Egbert’s Supporting Learning with Technology. You can find the chapter in our class reading folder.
The teacher in me wants to make you fill out a reading guide for this – but I’m going to restrain myself and trust that you’ll read the chapter. Don’t let me down 🙂  Please note, if you have any questions for me, you’ll be required to answer a question from the chapter to get assistance – so really, read it!
