PART ONE. WHAT IS STOPANIMATION?

For the next 2 weeks you’ll be developing a better understand of the ways that technology tools can support creativity for learning. You’ll be completing 1 project and 1 reflection.

For the next 3 days of class we’ll be working in groups to create Stop animation videos.  Watch one from a previous semesters on the water cycle, on the continent, and the solar system. Now, read more about Slowmation videos here.

 PART TWO. OUR CLIENTS

We will spend the next few class periods creating stop animation videos as part of a first grade classroom Social Science lesson in a charter school located in Compton, California. As students attending The University of Georgia, one of the leading national universities in the country, can you imagine how awesome it would be to give first graders from a inner-city school a completely different learning experience by creating videos that are educational, but meaningful at the same time? Collaboration with college friends from the opposite end of the country will definitely be memorable for years to come.

PART FOUR.TIMELINE FOR STOPANIMATION PROJECT

  • Today, you’ll have to finish up your script, and organize whatever is needed for next classes and submit your storyboard
  • Tuesday, Oct, 21st, you’ll make all of your props.
  • Thursday, Oct 23rd: you’ll begin filming. You’ll need to come to class ready to film – with props ready to go.
  • Tuesday, Oct 28th:  you’ll complete filming and publish to YouTube

PART FIVE. TODAY’s TASKS

We’ll worry about the tools we’re using to make your videos later.  For now you just need to:

  1. Find good partners (3-4) to work on this project. You can work by yourself but I would suggest you to work with at least one partner.
  2. Choose a topic and sign-up here. Come up with an idea for your video (make sure it matches a learning goal and California Standard.
    • By only watching your video, students should be able to learn the subject. So make sure you have clear target learners and clear learning goals; You will need to describe these when you submit your project.
  3. Plan your story. Brainstorm and create a storyboard for your video. This website, kdmc, can give you some rough ideas about storyboarding.  Write a script to complete your voice-over. 
  4. Decide on props. Plan what props and equipment you will need.
    • Remember the beauty of doing Stopanimation is to create an educational resource with limited numbers of props by using technological effects.
  5. Twitt (@polibell, #EDIT20001230 or #EDIT20002) your group’s plan with a picture of your storyborad
    • What content is your video teaching? Is it clear to the viewer? How can you make it more clear?
    • Does your video tell a story? Are you sure? Who is the main character? What is the plot?

FOR TUESDAY.

1. Start collecting resources needed for stop animation props: clay figures, construction paper, models, scissors, colored pencils, other art supplies – bring them to class on Tuesday.

2.  If you’d like me to print the photos you would like to us, send it to me via email by Monday before 3PM. Otherwise, bring the photos to class as well by Tuesday.
