PART ONE: INTRODUCTIONS
What is this class about? It’s about learning to use technology effectively in your own life so that you can (and will) use it effectively in a K-12 classroom. You’ll also learn about K12 trends and issues in technology integration. You can view the syllabus for more of the fine print – but that’s the main idea of the course.
Who is your instructor? My name is YunJeong Chang, also go by Eunice. Currently, I am a doctoral candidate in Learning, Design, and Technology program at the University of Georgia. This is my fifth time to teach EDIT 2000 and I have co-taught several undergraduate and master level courses in UGA. I am originally from Korea (South Korea) but lived and visited many foreign countries including Indonesia, Japan, Italy, France, Switzerland, Singapore, China, and several countries in South East Asia. Back in Korea, I was a college instructor as well as a researcher in medical education area. I believe it is important to use technology as an lifelong owners and learners.
What materials do you need? You’ll need access to technology – your own computer or one in a lab somewhere on campus. Mobile devices are even more helpful. You’ll need an open mind and a willingness to try things you thought you couldn’t do. You’ll need to be willing to think about issues in education, even though you might not be planning to teach in the traditional sense. You’ll also need to be able to work independently – as this is a fast-paced course that requires your full participation. That means sometimes having to figure out something on your own – rather than waiting to get the answer from me or a classmate.
What will you be doing this semester? You’ll be learning more about technology tools that you can use in your life now. Then, we’ll apply what you’ve learned to a K-12 classroom setting. All of this will be done through project-based learning. Don’t know what that is? I promise you will soon enough. You’ll be doing a lot of work, you won’t be bored, and you certainly won’t hear yourself saying, “when am I ever going to use.?” You’ll be completing an independent study project and a number of other projects based current topics in educational technology.
PART TWO: SYLLABUS
Here are some questions from previous students.
- Freedom– The topics of the projects are totally up to you. You can be consistent with one topic throughout the whole semester. You can change from project to project. You just need my approval for some projects.
- Late Pass– how can you earn late passes? There are several ways… Good works will help you earn one. How many can you earn? You can earn as many as possible. And how many can you use for one project? You can use up to two for one personal individual project and only one late for group project.
- Email communication – I usually check email up until 10 pm weekdays but give me at least 24 hours to respond to your email.
- Sign-in Sheet – Starting from next week, you need to sign in when you come to class. I will take away the sign-in sheet after 10 minutes. If you are late more than 10 minutes, that counts as an absence. If it is an emergency, you can talk to me after class

- Find a really good picture that you want to use for your e-portfolio.
